Abstract:
This GIS dataset depicts the surficial geology of NTS map area 84O (line features). The data were created in geodatabase format and output for public distribution in shapefile format. The map was prepared by airphoto interpretation together with limited ground-truthing. The airphotos within Wood Buffalo National Park were flown in 1975 (scale 1:54,000). The airphotos from outside the park were flown in 1994 (scale 1:60,000).
Purpose: For query and analysis of the surficial geology of NTS 84O in GIS format.

These data comprise the line features of Alberta Geological Survey Map 541, Surficial Geology of the Whitesand River Area, Alberta (NTS 84O). In English.

Data comprise the linear surficial features derived from 1:60 000 or 1:54 000-scale airphoto interpretation. We adjusted the features to align with similar features in adjacent study areas (edgematched). Where directionality was present, lines were digitized in the paleoflow direction or direction of ice movement. Line features intersect only where intended. The authoring geologist made visual checks of the attributes, and a third party checked plotted versions of the data.
Completeness Report:
Data were compiled initially through airphoto interpretation and were verified in selected locations during field mapping. Due to access constraints, the number of field sites were limited.

Accuracy of the surface feature interpretations were estimated to be better than +/- 150 m on the ground, based on informed judgement of the effects of all combined map production errors. No formal accuracy check was conducted to verify the interpretation was correct. The RMS error during georeferencing of the Mylar was less than +/- 50 m.
