Abstract:
This dataset is a GIS version of Alberta Geological Survey (AGS) Map 146, polygon features, as mapped at 1:250,000 scale. Digitizing was originally done by Prairie Farm Rehabilitation Administration (PFRA). The data were supplied to AGS by PFRA in Arc/Info coverage format (map polygon features only). Data were subsequently checked and edited by AGS.
Purpose:
To make the surficial geology of the Rocky Mountain House area available in a geographic information system format.

Data are contiguous, topologically correct polygons as built and enforced using ArcInfo software. No effort was made to ensure continuity of features with existing data in adjacent study areas (i.e., edgematching).

The map was scanned as a 24-bit, 500 dpi resolution jpg and converted to an 8-bitt tiff for performing the registration procedure in ArcINFO. Ten to thirty control points were used for registration to achieve an average RMS error of 15 m. Visual examination of the registered digital data against the provincial 1:250,000-scale NTS map areas indicates the positional accuracy is +/- 80 m.
